5 teams advance as super regionals set

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Oklahoma beat Appalachian State twice on Monday to become one of the last five teams to make the super regionals of the NCAA baseball championship.

North Carolina State, Baylor, TCU and Stony Brook also picked up wins to move within a step of the College World Series.

Appalachian State was trying to win an NCAA regional for the first time but left 21 men on base and surrendered nine two-out runs in 14-6 and 5-2 losses.

Oklahoma won the Charlottesville Regional at 4-1 and will play South Carolina, which is chasing its third straight CWS title after an NCAA-record 19 straight postseason wins.

South Carolina was among the 11 teams that locked up super regional berths on Sunday with perfect 3-0 records in regional play.

Each of the 16 teams that made it through the 64-team field will play a best- of-three super regional. The remaining eight make the CWS, which starts June 15 in Omaha, Nebraska.

NC State beat Vanderbilt, 9-7, to win the Raleigh Regional and will play No. 1 Florida; Baylor topped Dallas Baptist, 8-2, to capture the Waco Regional and will face Arkansas; TCU held on to defeat Ole Miss, 7-4, in the College Station Regional to play UCLA in the super regionals; and Stony Brook made it out of the Coral Gables Regional with a 10-6 victory over UCF, advancing to face LSU.
